France is in an advantageous position to electrify and achieve its climate goals.

RTE's 2035 Electricity Power System Outlook provides an update on the outlook for the electricity system between now and 2035. It confirms the relevance of France's long-term strategy to reduce its dependence on imported fossil fuels, improve its trade balance and enable its reindustrialisation. The benefits of this strategy in terms of climate, economy and sovereignty, as well as the conditions for its success, are confirmed.
In the short term, electricity consumption remains stable, out of step with low-carbon electricity production, which is now growing at the rate necessary to achieve its objectives. The country therefore finds itself in a situation of abundant decarbonised electricity, which is very favourable for new uses, but which must remain transitional. The most effective lever for reducing this period of overcapacity is to embark on a rapid electrification of the country (rapid decarbonisation trajectory). In a slow decarbonisation trajectory, adjusting the pace of low-carbon production development is also a lever, but it is less economically efficient and must preserve the sectors.
